Hope Link
Since 1971, Hopelink has served homeless and low income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities. Hopelink’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency for all members of our community; they help people make lasting change.
With generous support from companies like Microsoft, Comcast, and others, Hopelink has developed an extensive computer program which is designed to meet the needs of its clients.
I am a volunteer computer instructor. This quarter, I am teaching a project-related class, “Job Search Brochure.” In this class students will learn how to search for jobs, job duties and requirements, and job fairs, as well as how to create an attractive brochure in MS Word. Xerox Corporation generously donated printing last quarter so that the informational brochures could be published and distributed within the Hopelink network.
Throughout the 10 week class, I am stressing the importance of organizing their work in folders and saving their documents. The students are learning to create personal folders on the hard drive as well as save their work each week to a CD.
I’d like to offer them the opportunity to learn about USB thumb drives, and that’s where you all come in. I’m looking for donations of used, USB thumb drives for my students. The capacity can be minimal, as they are only saving a few documents each week.
Thanks very much for your consideration and willingness to support Hopelink’s endeavors. Even something as seemingly insignificant as a USB drive really does make a difference.
You may contact me at my personal email, gypsea00@hotmail.com, and we can work out a pick up. If you are interested in volunteering, at Hopelink, there are many opportunities, from working at the food bank to teaching ESL.
