Armed Forces

From April Johnson:
“My dad, Harold Wade, died in January this year from lung cancer caused by radiation poisoning incurred during the Korean war. In 1958 he was in the Navy and was on a ship during the first test of the H-bomb. The ship was about 18 miles from Bikini Island when it was blown up. The officers had all the enlisted men lay face down on the deck of the ship just prior to the blast. When the bomb went off, my dad said he could see the bones in his arms (through his closed eyes) when the heat of the blast went over him. He was a disabled veteran. Also, my mother, Arlene Wade, was in the Marines during the 1950’s. I was born on Camp Pendleton Marine base, Southern California, so the Armed Forces flow through my blood.”

From Kenneth Aitchison:
“My wife (Mary) and I both served in the US Army. We met in Heidelberg, Germany where we were both stationed in the late 70’s.”
